The day’s adventure begins, as I venture to the beach and catch the evening sun. With a camera, swimsuit and towel in hand, I drive one hour north to Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, Illinois. With a retro resort and campground on the north end, and nature trails to the south, Illinois Beach State Park and Nature Preserve is an unexpected escape from Chicago.
Walking along the nature trail to the beach, I arrive the lake’s edge just in time to capture the light surfing the waves. Miniature bubbles break along the surface and waves tumble into the sand. Pebbles quickly expose themselves, before going into hiding again.
With camera and perspective at play, I stand in the water finding rhythm in the waves.
